- AirTran Airways Navigates a New Course to the Valley of the Sun -ORLANDO, Fla., Nov 28, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- AirTran Airways, a
subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), today announced that the
airline will expand its route map to add Phoenix, Ariz. as its next
destination. The low-cost carrier will launch new nonstop service between
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport on February 15, 2007. The routes will be served by the
fuel efficient Boeing 737-700 aircraft, part of AirTran Airways' youngest all-
Boeing fleet in America.
The new service to Phoenix comes as a result of AirTran Airways' recent
online survey that asked consumers, "Where do you want low fares next?"
Initiated late last month, AirTran Airways dedicated a portion of its web site
to the survey where consumers could log on and vote for the airline's next
destination. Phoenix emerged as AirTran Airways' next destination for giving
travelers access to low fares and unique onboard amenities including business
class seating on every flight and free XM Satellite Radio programming at every
seat.
"We are excited to expand to Phoenix and bring our growing route network
to the Southwestern United States," said Kevin Healy, vice president of
planning for AirTran Airways. "With convenient online booking and an award-
winning frequent flier program, AirTran Airways will be the easiest way to
escape to Phoenix to enjoy the desert sun, the famous resorts with great
shopping and restaurants, the many natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, and
perhaps a few rounds of golf at the region's renowned courses."
"We are very excited about AirTran Airways starting service at Phoenix Sky
Harbor. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is one of the busiest
airports in the world and providing additional options for travelers between
the bustling business hubs of Atlanta and Phoenix adds to customer service at
Sky Harbor," said Danny Murphy, Acting Aviation Director, Phoenix Sky Harbor
International Airport.
AirTran Airways will offer one roundtrip flight to Phoenix beginning
February 15, 2007, with the addition of a second roundtrip flight on February
22, 2007. The airline will add a flight from Atlanta to Phoenix on March 6,
